LIFE-2-ACID Project was presented in the 3rd ANQUE-ICCE International Congress of Chemical Engineering, held from June 19th to 21st. The University of Cantabria has participated with a flash presentation entitled “Environmental Impact Assessment of the hot-dip galvanisation process” within the topic “Environmental & Sustainable Chemical Engineering”.
This international congress was organized by ANQUE, the Spanish National Association of Chemists and Chemical Engineers, in collaboration with AQUIQÁN, the Association of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Cantabria. In this context, the Project LIFE2ACID evaluated the environmental impacts of the hot-dip galvanisation process determining that zinc production is the main contributor for all the impact categories. In this way, the alternative proposed by LIFE2ACID to recover zinc from spent pickling acids can be an environmentally beneficial alternative solution.
